Mulberry Paper

This work confronts how people manipulate and interact with the landscape around them. It refers to the actual barriers humans put up in their attempts to control the landscape around them. When viewers come across this fence in the gallery, I want them to consider how barriers like a thin strip of barbed wire, plastic sheeting propped up with poles or the now infamous wall on our counties Southern border, can control how they move around a space. I hope this delicate and insubstantial fence, made of thin Kozo paper, allows the viewer to start to notice all the subtle and not-so-subtle human made infrastructure surrounding them and consider how they move through their own environment on an everyday basis.
